PBL, Empathy & History-One Teacher’s Perspective


At the beginning of this school year J.J. found himself in deep introspection about the state of our world today. The heated and vitriolic rhetoric of this election cycle was hitting full tilt, and he knew his 9th grade students would have spent the entire summer absorbing it all. As he sat down to organize his curriculum for the year, he began to ask himself a driving question: “How can I use my history class to counteract the negativity in our country and in the world?”
